ABOUT THE OWNER

Having been born and brought up in the east African country of Tanzania, I know exactly what an impact (a lack of) opportunities can have on someone’s life. I was privileged enough to attend the oldest international school in all of Africa and graduated top of my cohort. My commitment to academic excellence, along with my passion for field hockey opened up a new opportunity: a Sports Scholarship and the Outstanding Scholar Award from the University of British Columbia. Rest assured that my tuition fees for my first year of post-secondary studies was taken care of, I decided to focus my time and energy on playing for the UBC Field Hockey varsity team as well as looking for ways to fund my personal expenses. At one point, I juggled my roles as a cashier, barista, laborer and tutor all at the same time.

Over time, this began taking a toll on me. I began exploring business opportunities which would both free up my time and pay my bills. More importantly, I was looking for business opportunities that would allow me to support my siblings’ educations and support my family back home.

Through Smart Brushes, I also mentor like-minded individuals who are hungry for growth and opportunities – opportunities I never had. We work closely with Oxfam Frontliners to provide financial support to select projects in a number of developing countries, and look to give back to the local communities as well.
